Antimicrobial Activity of β-chitosan against VRSA and MRSA

Abstract

|
This study was performed to investigate antimicrobial activities of β-chitosan (685,000 Da, 20 cps) prepared from arrow squid pens against two kinds of bacteria such as vancomycin resistant Staphylococcus aureus (VRSA) and methicillin-resistant Staphylococcus aureus (MRSA). The antimicrobial activity was measured by the method of colony counts, and the minimum inhibitory concentration (MIC) value of the β-chitosan against VRSA and MRSA was 0.625 mg/mL. These results indicate that β-chitosan possess the antimicrobial activity on VRSA and MRSA.
